And, family stories and vintage photographs make me appreciate the heritage in every bite.

“Dishes from the Wild Horse Desert” (2006), Melissa Guerraīeyond the 120-recipes that show how to cook original Tex-Mex food – the dishes that fed the ranchers and vaqueros of South Texas – this cookbook offers clear guidance on the basic ingredients to craft those dishes, including chilies, nopalitos and spices, and techniques needed to help them shine in the final product. They developed a unique way to list ingredients and instructions that made following directions about as simple as possible without step-by-step pictures that are common in blog recipes and cookbooks today. Then my wife informed me that she already owns the two autographed cookbooks she had ordered years ago. "Mack Eplen's Best Kept Secret Volume 1" and "Volume 2" (published by Create My Cookbook).

Mack Eplen's best-kept secrets are not a secret anymore because Terri has gathered all of her family's "secret recipes" and published them in two cookbooks. I then learned that the secret recipes are not so secret anymore (as you'll see in the video above). With that argument settled I asked Miss Eplen if there was any way that she would ever share the secret family recipes with me and that I would swear an oath to NEVER share them with anybody else.
